Happy Tails is run by Maddy Anadkat, author of Happy Tails: The Dog-Raising & Training Handbook. This page explains what we collect, why we collect it, and who helps us handle it. The short version: we collect only what we need to send you the free things you asked for, we never sell it, and ad cookies stay off unless you say yes.
What we collect, and why
- Your email address, so we can send your plan, the checklist, the Welcome Pack and the emails you signed up for.
- Proof of your consent: the time you signed up, your IP address, your browser, and the exact wording you agreed to. This shows that you asked to hear from us.
- Your quiz answers, if you take the quiz: your dog's name, the day they came (or will come) home, puppy or rescue, their age range, whether they're your first dog, the worry you picked, and your first name if you gave it. We use them to build your personal plan, your 30-day calendar and the tips we send you.
- Where you came from: the page or ad that brought you, the tracking tags in the link (UTM tags), and your country, worked out from your internet connection (not your exact location). This tells us what's working.
- Email delivery events, such as a bounce or a spam report, so we stop emailing addresses that don't want our mail.
- Clicks on our "Buy on Amazon" links, as explained below.
We don't sell your data, and we don't share your email with anyone except the services listed below.
Cookies
- ht_consent remembers whether you clicked Allow or No thanks, for six months. That's all it does.
- _fbp and _fbc are Meta's cookies. They're set only after you click Allow, and they tell us which Facebook and Instagram ads bring readers here.
- If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as No and don't ask.
To change your mind, clear this site's cookies in your browser and we'll ask again on your next visit.
Meta Pixel and Conversions API
Only if you click Allow (and your browser isn't sending Global Privacy Control), we tell Meta about a few things you do here: viewing a page, finishing the quiz (with puppy or rescue and the worry you picked, never your dog's name), signing up, and clicking through to Amazon. The Meta Pixel sends these from your browser. The Conversions API sends some of them from our server, with your IP address, browser and Meta's cookies, so Meta can match them to its ads.
Once you confirm your email address, never before, we also send Meta a scrambled (hashed) copy of it, so Meta can match the sign-up to an ad. If you didn't click Allow, none of this happens.
Our emails are sent from our own mailbox, hey@myhappytail.dog, which is hosted by Namecheap Private Email. We may later use an email delivery service such as Resend instead. If we do, we'll update this page. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Who processes your data
- Vercel hosts this website.
- Neon stores our database.
- Namecheap Private Email sends and receives our email.
- Meta, only with your permission, as above.
Amazon links
The book is sold on Amazon. When you click one of our "Buy on Amazon" links, we count the click: which link it was (the page and the book format) and your country, so we can send you to your own Amazon store. Amazon may also give us sales numbers through Amazon Attribution, but only as anonymous totals. They don't tell us who bought. Once you're on Amazon, Amazon's own privacy notice applies.
Your 30-day calendar feed
The Welcome Pack includes a calendar feed. If you add it to Google Calendar or Apple Calendar, they fetch it from us from time to time. It contains your dog's name and your plan's dates, so only share the link with people you trust. If you unsubscribe, the feed stops working; remove the calendar from your app to clear the events it already copied.
How long we keep it
We keep your details while you're subscribed. When you unsubscribe, the emails stop and your personal download links stop working. We keep your email address, the relevant dates, how you found us, your quiz answers and your consent record, so we never email you again by mistake and can show that you agreed. Once an event reaches Meta, our copy of it drops your IP address and browser details and keeps only scrambled identifiers and Meta's cookie IDs. Ask us and we'll delete everything instead.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold about you. Just email hey@myhappytail.dog and we'll sort it out. To stop our emails, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email.
